Nude Holidays in Croatia: Beach Fun on the Adriatic

For decades, Croatia has been one of the most popular destinations for naturists in Europe. There are several good reasons for this. Along the Adriatic coast you will find many designated nude beaches, as well as quiet coves on the islands, clear water and often short walking distances from your holiday home or apartment to the sea. Anyone who wants a relaxed, clothes-free holiday will find very good conditions here.

Another plus is the country’s long naturist tradition, which dates back to the 1930s. A key moment was 1936, when British King Edward VIII went swimming without swimwear on the island of Rab. In this context, Kandarola beach became known throughout the country. It was designated in the 1950s as Croatia’s first official nude bathing beach. To this day it is one of the best known destinations for a nude holiday on the Adriatic.

Rab as the historic centre of nude holidays

Anyone interested in the history of naturism in Croatia will hardly get around Rab. Kandarola beach is located on the Frkanj peninsula and can be reached in just a few minutes by water taxi. Nearby lies Palit in the Eufemija Bay. The island combines its historic role with a relaxed beach holiday and is still seen as one of the most famous places for nude bathing on the Croatian coast.

Nude beaches on the islands of Kvarner Bay

The islands of Kvarner Bay are also especially attractive for naturists. On almost every inhabited island you will find options for a nude holiday in Croatia. This variety is what makes the region so appealing. You can look for quiet spots, plan some island hopping or stay in a classic holiday home.

  • Cres: Near Kovacine there are designated areas for nude bathing.
  • Rab: The so-called English Bay is one of the country’s most traditional naturist spots.
  • Krk: Several well known beaches make the island a popular address for naturists, including Politin near the town of Krk, a naturist area near Malinska-Dubašnica and Bunculuka beach close to Baška.

Korčula and other destinations on the Adriatic coast

It is not only Kvarner Bay that offers good locations for a nude holiday. Further south you will also find attractive stretches of beach. On the island of Korčula, one of Croatia’s best known nude beaches lies near Stupa. If you want to combine nature, the sea and a relaxed holiday atmosphere, you will also find good conditions there.

Why Croatia is so popular with naturists

Unlike in some other Adriatic countries, naturism has long been an established part of the tourism offer in Croatia. Many beach sections are clearly designated, and suitable accommodation is often located very close by. This makes planning easier and helps ensure a straightforward stay. Added to this are the diverse landscapes, clean water and the choice between lively resorts and quieter island regions.

A nude holiday in Croatia therefore offers not only a wide range of beaches, but also a destination with a well established naturist culture. It is precisely this combination of tradition, freedom and coastal scenery that makes the Adriatic country so appealing to many visitors.
